Retro Print | Mt Buffalo Holiday Spirit
Another rarely seen vintage travel poster for Victorian Railways, circa 1924, by well-known Australian commercial artist of the era Percival Albert (Percy) Trompf (1902-1964), restored to its former glory by Retro Print Merchants.
Number 80 in the iconic Victorian Railways poster series, this work features a happy young woman enjoying "the holiday spirit" of the Mt Buffalo National Park in the alpine region of Victoria, Australia. Mt Buffalo was one of the Victoria’s first national parks in 1898. The famous Mt Buffalo Chalet was built by the Victorian government in 1910 and was Australia’s first ski resort. It was managed from 1924 by Victorian Railways.
Percy Trompf was born in Beaufort, Victoria, and educated at Sebastopol State School and the Ballarat Technical Art School. In 1923 he joined a Melbourne firm of commercial artists and designed chocolate boxes and wrappings for A. W. Allen Pty Ltd. Later, from his studio at Little Collins Street, he painted and designed thousands of advertising posters for clients such as Bryant & May (matches) and Palmolive (soaps).
An archival quality reproduction professionally printed in Australia.
